One reason I want to keep this commonplace book is so that I have a trusted place to put different things I think. Another reason is to force myself to realize what I think about the most by attempting to capture it.
Already I’m noticing that my thinking tends to go into a few different overlapping areas.
- There is the idea of belonging gone wrong, which I’m capturing under the tag of jouissance. (Of course, jouissance has lot to do with other things as well, but for now I’m mostly interested in how jouissance creates opportunities for what I’m calling “belonging gone wrong”.
- Hauntology continues to dominate much of my thinking. I group things like Gothic Marxism under this.
- I keep developing my views on what I’m calling dialectical pessimism.
- And psychoanalysis (Lacanian psychoanalysis in particular) continues to be the main body of knowledge that is the foundation upon which I build all my other stuff.
