I’m currently working with a few grad students who are interested in hauntology, and in doing ethnographic research.
This is making me think about the possibility of something I’m calling hauntography, a combination of hauntology and ethnography where the researcher (ethnographer) spends time among a group and tries to determine the ghosts and specter that are haunting that group. The final product might be some sort of a written description of the haunting, of the effects the ghosts and specters are having on the group’s real lived experience.
This sort of research would clearly be highly speculative, not positivistic/scientific.
Inevitably the researcher’s own ghosts would interfere with what the researcher sees…
Be all that as it may, this idea of hauntography seems very exciting to me.
